Art in the Market employs at-risk youth to work with artists in the creation of public works of art installed in the Findlay Market District of Over-the- Rhine. This program uses art as a catalyst for promoting inside-out changes and capitalizes on the human and material assets available in the local community. Art in the Market supports community development through job training and investment in "aesthetic infrastructure." Year-round components of the program provide academic and artistic enrichment for the participating youth. The program is administered by the University of Cincinnati Community Design Center and is made possible through a partnership between the community, community-based youth service organizations such as the Citizen's Committee on Youth, the city of Cincinnati, and outreach programs of the University.

Art in the Market Installs Wire Structure
A large Art in the Market copper wire sculpture by Karlos McAfee now graces the southern exposure of a Race Street apartment building just east of Findlay Market's north parking lot. The two story tall sculpture can be viewed from the farmers market shed. Many smaller copper wire creations now hang in merchant stands throughout the market.

Tower Mosaic Arrives in Cincinnati
When the center tower at Findlay Market reopens in mid-November, shoppers and visitors will see a fabulous mosaic artwork designed by David Day Associates. To be installed on the tower floor, the eight by eight foot mosaic depicts the history of Findlay Market from 1852 to 2002 in a four-sided design. It is comprised of colorful one inch tile pieces manufactured in Briare, France. Mr. Day visited the factory in June to give the mosaic a final inspection before shipment. It was then shipped by air to Cincinnati in one-foot squares. As soon as the tower reconstruction and roof repairs are completed, the mosaic will be brought to the site and put into place. An unveiling ceremony is planned for Friday November 14, 2003. Come to the Market and see this remarkable and dazzling historical picture of Cincinnati's own Findlay Market.
