Owner Sherry Parker says the high quality chocolates she offers at Café Chocolat in the market house tower are like selling joy. After over two decades of working in the medical field, first opening medical offices, then in medical insurance, Sherry decided she needed to do something for herself, so she opened her chocolate stand in October 2006.

In a way, she's still in the health field. Bittersweet chocolate, one of the many types of chocolate she carries, has over 300 beneficial qualities, Sherry says. Because at Café Chocolat, Sherry doesn't just provide delectable sweets, she also offers knowledge.

A lot of people love chocolate, Sherry says, but they don't know a lot about it. Prior to opening her stand, Sherry studied everything she could about chocolate for over three years, taking classes, visiting other shops and finding a mentor at the North Market in Columbus.

In addition to making her own chocolates-- she specializes in hand dipped fresh fruits from Findlay Market-- Sherry carries products from other local chocolatiers. You can find prepackaged chocolates and chocolates sold in bulk by the pound. She offers some of the best chocolates the world has to offer, from dark bittersweet with 84% cocoa to milk chocolate and with names like Lindt and Asher's. The dried fruits come from Harry and David's.

Sherry fell in love with the way people respond to chocolate when she moonlighted at a chocolates kiosk open during performances at the Aronoff Center. Chocolate truly makes people happy. And, when you buy a good product, Sherry says, it's like getting a gift. She plans to adjust her chocolate line to what her customers respond to best, with a range of prices, and may even offer a chocolate fountain in the future.

She credits her mom for bringing her to Findlay Market as a child. The market fascinated Sherry. I always said, if I ever opened a business, it would be at Findlay Market, Sherry says. She wouldn't have it anyplace else. And, she's hired very good help; her son, Torino Middlebrook.
