To Preserve, Protect and Promote Findlay Market
The Friends of Findlay Market is all about engaging and supporting the market. Whether it's joining in the Opening Day Parade, volunteering at one of our many events at the market, or serving as an Ambassador, there is something for everyone! Holidays at Findlay Market = Lots of Volunteering Opportunities!
With the holidays heading our way, we'll need plenty of volunteers! From being an Ambassador to helping out at our Weekend Holiday Market, there are lots of ways you can get involved. Please click on the button above to see the many ways that you can help out.
Are you interested in taking volunteering at the market to the next level? If so, consider being a part of a committee. To learn more or to join a committee, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Below are committee descriptions:
Share you love and knowledge of the market by being a trained Ambassador. These are the folks with the teal 'Ask Me' signs, yellow vests and huge welcoming smiles on their faces. The goal of the Ambassador Committee is to ensure that shoppers have the best experience possible. Ambassadors will be trained to give 30 minute tours, answer customers' questions and lend a hand at the Market Center. Shifts are every Saturday from 10am-12pm & 12pm-2pm.
EDUCATION & CIVIC COMMITTEE
Ever wondered how Findlay Market fulfills its civic duties as a public market? Would you be interested in attending panel discussions about the role of public markets in building community across the country or view an exhibit about the history of the market? These are a few examples of what the Ed/Civic Committee will be working on this year. If you'd like to help develop and implement ideas such as these (or if you have your own suggestions) we'd love for you to join the team.
Events are a great way to introduce new people to the market and to bring life-long shoppers together to celebrate throughout the year. We've added brand new events this year -including a Flower Show, the Lamb Jam, & a 2-day Smokin' Hot BBQ event - to an already packed calendar. These events aren't possible without volunteers, though. We are looking for people to be Event Leads (help plan and manage volunteers for an event of your choosing) and day-of volunteers.
There are so many opportunities to create, build and maintain relationships between Findlay Market and the community. Whether it is speaking to community councils, hosting an information booth at a local univiersity or marching in a parade, we need people to help us by being a Findlay Market presence at happenings throughout the city. As an Outreach Committee member, you would help strategize and organize those opportunities and be a representative of Findlay Market.
Every Saturday at 11:00 am, the Friends will offer 30 minute Ambassador led tours of the Market. Meet at the Market Center and learn about the history of the market, how to navigate the market today and other interesting facts about Ohio's oldest public market. These tours are great whether you are visiting for the first time or you're a long-time shopper. If you have questions or want to RSVP for a tour, contact email@example.com.
The Friends recognize the benefits of wonderful fresh food, but also the vibrant culture of our historic city-center market that improves the life of Cincinnati. We work closely with the Corporation for Findlay Market, the Findlay Market Merchant Association, the City of Cincinnati, and shoppers to assure that the market and surrounding Over-the-Rhine Neighborhood are vibrant and growing.
The Friends organization consists of a working volunteer board and a membership of volunteers. Being a Friend is a great way to help the communty, connect with those who have the same interests and share your hopes and ideas for the future of the market.
In addition to volunteering, here are some of the ways the Friends of Findlay Market have made big impacts at and around the market:
- Periodic public information forums on issues of importance to the market and its neighbors
- Thousands of daffodils & day lilies & many trees planted around the market in collaboration with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful
- The butterfly garden near the South Parking Lot
- Rejuvenated and cleaned up parking lots, spearheaded by the Friends on Make a Difference Day
- The initiation of free wi-fi service - first 3 years funded by the Friends
- Festive additions of beads & trinkets @ Mardi Gras
- The Findlay Market float in the Opening Day Parade - we decorate it and ride in it to promote the market
