DIRT is a full-time retail store owned and operated by the
Corporation for Findlay Market (CFFM). In 2015, CFFM was able to launch DIRT
with support from the Interact for Health Foundation. The store sells locally
produced goods from produce to prepared foods to soaps and more. Because the
store operates like a consignment shop, it is able to connect consumers with
local producers in a way that hasn’t been done before at Findlay Market. It
also allows growers and producers to:
- Set up their individual display
- Set their own prices
- Be reimbursed 75-82% of their gross sales
DIRT’s hours will vary slightly from the main market house:
- Monday – CLOSED
- Tuesday-Friday – 10am to 7pm
- Saturday – 8am to 6pm
- Sunday – 10am to 4pm
DIRT’s goals are to expand the market for local growers and producers, encourage healthy eating and promote community involvement and healthy living. It achieves these goals by marketing food that celebrates what is unique and different about our community all while keeping a greater percentage of food dollars circulating within the local economy. DIRT strives to highlight and support Cincinnati’s local crops, ethnic traditions and creative people. DIRT also focuses on creating a sustainable and authentic environment where local entrepreneurs can have an outlet to start a business without having to sacrifice their values.
Findlay Market’s local food initiatives including our weekend farmer’s market, the Findlay Market neighborhood farmstands, the Findlay Kitchen and Produce Perks/SNAP Plus will find DIRT an informal hub. Already, you can find several of Findlay Kitchen member’s goods sold on DIRT’s shelves.
DIRT encourages you to shop local and support your friends, family and neighbors!
