Krutarth Jain

Krutarth “Kru” Jain came to Cincinnati in 2002 as an architecture student at UC through the DAAP Program. When he first came to Cincinnati, Findlay Market was under construction and many places were boarded up. Eager to explore his new city, Kru, with digital camera in hand, walked around all of the historic spots in Cincinnati, including Findlay Market.

Kru recalls a well-wisher warning him, “If you’re a tourist and not sure where you are, make sure you are aware of your surroundings.”

Kru tells us that seeing Findlay Market where it is now compared to how it was in 2002 is fascinating.

Throughout his time in Clifton as a student, Kru enjoyed spending his Saturdays at Findlay Market and taking in the experience of shopping at such a historic market. Growing up in India, Kru was familiar with the open air market concepts that are common in India and Europe. He tells us that walking through Findlay Market activates all of his senses from the smells to the sounds.

“Not many places in Cincinnati can do that,” says Kru.

When the Findlay Market Board of Directors were looking for a new board member with an architecture background, Kru was thrilled to accept the invitation. As a Board Member, Kru enjoys collaborating and problem solving with the other board members and making everything happen.

One of his first projects was Findlay Kitchen where he got to see the project from start to finish and how it grew with success over the past 6 years.

Kru enjoys bringing his family to Findlay Market to savor family time with his wife, two teenage daughters and his dogs. From eating the Arepa Place together to relishing in a drink and live music at Jane’s, a family outing to Findlay Market is a no brainer, according to Kru.

The family has a routine of visiting LK, Sen and Luken’s, and then a stop at PetWants with the dogs, of course.

Kru finds it interesting how Findlay Market is considered one of the highest visited places in Cincinnati to outsiders, but some people who live around Cincinnati aren’t exposed to it and have never visited before. Kru tells us that his biggest mission is to change the perception associated with Over the Rhine and encourage the community to visit.
